Chai Oatmeal

Chai Oatmeal

Many of you have been seeing my Instagram stories where I’m always making oatmeal in the morning! I never ate it growing up, but I started loving it a couple of years ago. I love that it’s healthy, and you can jazz it up with any flavors you want! Today i’m sharing a really easy Chai Oatmeal recipe using the Kolkata Chai Co. DIY Masala Chai Kit!

What if I don’t have the chai kit?

If you have all of the components to making your own masala chai at home, simply add those in where I would be adding this mix! For a super easy way, you can take one or two chai tea bags and steep them. The Kolkata Chai Kit is so perfect though, so I HIGHLY recommend you purchase it! It makes life so much easier, rather than buying all of the individual components. Use code “ChocAndCheese10” for 10% off!

Other toppings that would taste great

When I think of chai, I think of warm and sweet flavors. That’s why I love adding apple slices on mine. Chai pairs really well with apples, pears, and banana! I always love to add any nuts we have laying around in the house, and always a dash of cinnamon to sprinkle on top!

Can I make this ahead of time?

Absolutely! You can make this the night before and store it in the fridge after it cools down. In the morning, you can add few splashes of milk to loosen it up, and pop it in the microwave for a minute or two!

Chai Oatmeal
There is nothing better than chai flavored oatmeal!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup water
  • 4 tbsp Kolkata Chai Mix
  • 1 cup milk (I used almond milk)
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 2 tbsp light brown sugar (or regular)
  • 1 apple (sliced)
  • 2 tbsp almonds (chopped)
  • 1 pinch cinnamon

INTRUCTIONS

  1. Bring water to a simmer and then add in your Kolkata Chai Mix.
  2. After about 3 minutes, add in your milk and turn up the heat. Once it’s at at a rolling boil, turn the heat off and let it sit while you slice up your apple and chop your almonds.
  3. Strain the chai and add it back into your pot. Turn heat to medium and add in your rolled oats.
  4. Let them cook on medium heat for 5-7 minutes. Yours may take longer or shorter, depending on your stove. Add a pinch of salt to bring out flavors.
  5. Right before the oats are done, add in your sugar, and half of your chopped almonds. When the chai is all absorbed, taste the oats to make sure they are cooked. If you want them creamier and softer, add a little bit more milk. Cook until your desired consistency.
  6. When ready, take off of the heat and spoon into bowls. Garnish with sliced apple, some more chopped almonds, and a dash of cinnamon!
