Homemade Pizza

Homemade Pizza

I finally have a new recipe up…. YAYYY!! Did you think this day would come?? lol… better yet, did you think the day would come where I finally share my homemade pizza dough recipe with you??!

This post is in partnership with Brown Girl Magazine & Sambar Kitchen. Place an order of their ‘pizza & pasta’ sauce with discount code ‘BG15’ for 15% off here!

Throughout the years, my mom and I have tried SEVERAL different versions of pizza dough. While most of them turned out pretty good, there always something missing. I finally resorted to looking up a recipe online and made the dough with the exact measurements. As I made it a few more times, I tweaked it to better suit myself. So, I cannot take full credit for this recipe, but I definitely did put my own spin on it!

Be patient with the dough…

GOOD pizza dough needs some time to rise, and each time I tried this recipe, I let it rise anywhere between 18 and 22 hours. I highly recommend you making this the night before, so you have an ample amount of time to let it do it’s thing!

Pizza Sauce

I used the Sambar Kitchen Pizza & Pasta Sauce for this recipe. This sauce is seasoned SO well, and it’s the perfect amount of fusion that I’m looking for. It has bite sized pieces of paneer in it, and it’s also got some Indian spices. I honestly really enjoyed this sauce, and I’ve been using it on several dishes! Trust me- you will love it. Use code ‘BG15’ for 15% off of your purchase 🙂 I also used this sauce in my Spaghetti Grilled Cheese post, which has been a HUGE hit!

Toppings on your pizza

I’m a sucker for jalapeno + garlic on my pizza, but this is the time to GET CREATIVE!! Throw on all of the veggies you want to use up! Besides jalapeno + garlic, I loveeee a full on veggie pie with mushroom, onion, spinach, tomato, jalapenos, garlic, and olives! If you want to go sweet and savory, pineapple + jalapeno is my go-to!

Adapted from the Tasty Pizza Dough Recipe!

Ingredients

Pizza Dough

  • cup warm water
  • ½ tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp yeast
  • cups all purpose flour
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp oregano flakes
  • 1.5 tsp black pepper
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • ¼ cup corn flour (or semolina flour)

Pizza Toppings

  • 2 cups pizza sauce
  • 4 cups mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese
  • 2 jalapenos (sliced)
  • 8 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 small red onion
  • 1 handful fresh parsley (or basil)

Instructions

Pizza Dough

  • Take your warm water and combine it with the sugar and the yeast. Mix well and let it sit for 10 minutes, or until you see the yeast bubble.
  • Mix your all purpose flour, salt, crushed red pepper flakes, garlic powder, oregano, and black pepper in a large bowl.
  • Make a little hole in the middle of your combined flour, and pour in your olive oil, followed by the yeast water. Mix with a spoon until ingredients start to combine a little.
  • At this point, start kneading the dough with your hands on a clean surface. You will need to knead it for about 15 minutes, until it is smooth. Have some extra flour and oil and use along the way if it is too sticky.
  • Take another bowl, grease the insides and add your dough in there. Add a light layer of oil on the dough as well. Let it sit, covered with plastic wrap for as little as 6 hours, or up to 18 hours.
  • When you are ready to use the dough, punch it and knead it for another minute. Cut into equal portions and shape it into balls. Let this rest for about 30 minutes under a towel.

Assembling Pizza

  • When ready, pre-heat oven to the HIGHEST setting and put your pizza tray or pizza stone in there too, so it warms up while you prepare the pizzas.
  • Take your dough and stretch / press until you get the desired thickness all around. DO not roll the dough.
  • When your oven is ready, take some corn flour and sprinkle it right on top of the pan or the stone. Put your pizza dough on there, and add some sauce, cheese, and any toppings desired.
  • Put it back into the oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese has melted.
  • Cut into equal parts, garnish with herbs, and ENJOY!
Notes
  • This recipe yields 4 personal pizzas, but you can make 2 larger ones if you want to make larger pies. It will be good for about 4 people!
