Nasi Goreng Hijau
Megha Patel
Today I’m sharing a favorite Indonesian dish with you called Nasi Goreng! The version I made is actually Nasi Goreng Hijau, also known as Green Indonesian Fried Rice 🙂 When I was in Indonesia about a year and a half ago, I discovered this dish and immediately fell in love. Not only was I able to consume it daily, (sometimes 2x a day), but I also took a local cooking class in Bali and learned how to make it on my own!
Traditional Indonesian cuisine has a lot of garlic, ginger, and sambal (chili paste). For me, those are the PRIME ingredients for all dishes. The way they make their dishes is definitely more lengthy, because they take the fresh herbs, spices, and ingredients, and make their own paste BY HAND, which essentially flavors up the whole meal.
I kept it a little cleaner and make a little modern twist out of the Nasi Goreng Hijau. (Hijau = Green). Regular Nasi Goreng is not green, but the green version was my favorite. This recipe is really simple, and a great way to add a different cuisine into your weekly meals if you are looking for something different! If the spice is too much for you, you can always use bell pepper instead of the thai chili’s, or simply reduce the amount you put in!
If you are confused by the random tomato and cucumber slices, you should be, lol 🙂 Every Nasi Goreng dish that I was served always came with a garnish of tomatoes and cucumber. So I decided to be as authentic as possible. Speaking of garnish, a lot of times it will be served with a fried egg on top! I wanted to keep this an egg-less dish, however that’s always a great way to add in some protein!
I hope you guys enjoy this recipe as much as I do! Always remember to tag me in any stories on @chocolateandcheeseplease after making my recipes! I love reposting your creations, as well as seeing how they turn out!! Thanks in advance! 🙂 PS.
