Holiday Masala Popcorn

Holiday Masala Popcorn

I don’t know about you, but I am a huge snacker! I’m one of those people who needs to munch on something while my actual food is heating up. Am I crazy? It’s probably my favorite part of the meal making experience LOL. One thing that I am obsessed with is this Holiday Masala Popcorn. Don’t let the name fool you, it can be made and consumed year round. But we love to gift it during this time of the year!!

Gifting Ideas

Like I previously mentioned, we love to gift bags of this popcorn to our family and friends! I find it really hard to shop for gifts for coworkers, so something like this is definitely easy and a good treat! I did this for my coworkers a few years back and they LOVED it!

Adding Other Spices

Masala Popcorn is made in so many different ways, so you can add any spices you want. We like to stick to cayenne (for the spice) and turmeric (for the color), but you can even add a dash of garam masala to spice things up more! Do not skip out on the salt and black pepper though!!

Making Big Batches

You might want to double this recipe from the start, because it’s so addicting that you will want to make big batches. We typically make 2 portions of this and store it in large containers and put them in our pantry to munch on. This is the perfect little snack during work from home meetings!

Holiday Masala Popcorn
A perfect snack to make in big batches and gift to loved ones!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
  • 1/2 tbsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tbsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/4 tsp cumin seeds
  • 2-3 tbsp butter

INTRUCTIONS

  1. Pop your kernels in a popcorn maker or on the stove.
  2. Add the turmeric, cayenne, and salt per taste directly to the popcorn once it’s popped, and roughly mix.
  3. In a large & sturdy pot, add the oil and turn heat on medium.
  4. Once oil is hot, add the mustard seeds and cumin seeds.
  5. When they stop sizzling, turn heat to low and add in your popcorn.
  6. Starting mixing it as soon as the popcorn is added so that none of the spices burn on the bottom of the pan. Keep mixing for at least 5 minutes until all of the popcorn is nice and coated by the spices.
  7. After 5 minutes are up, add in the butter, and black pepper per taste.
  8. Turn heat back up to medium so the popcorn gets crunchier and continue to mix until everything is coated in butter.
  9. Eat once it’s done or cool completely before storing in a container!

NOTES

  • We like to make large batches of this, so try to double the recipe and store in a container! This is a perfect afternoon snack to munch on.
  • This Holiday Masala Popcorn makes for a great gift! Pack individual little goodie bags and send them to your friends / family!
