Mom’s Spicy Papdi No Lot
Megha Patel
There’s something magical about the flavors of home-cooked meals that transport us back to childhood memories. In my kitchen, one recipe reigns supreme when it comes to nostalgia and comfort: my Mom’s Spicy Papdi No Lot. This traditional Gujarati dish (or snack, if you will) is not just about its fiery kick; it’s about the love and memories that go into every bite. Today, I’m sharing this super easy recipe with you, and I promise you’ll love it!
The Spicier, The Better!
It’s no secret that most of my recipes, and my mom’s recipes, are super spicy. The level of spice can always be adjusted to your preference, but this beautiful Papdi No Lot gets its green hues from Thai chilies, Serranos and jalapenos. Papdi No Lot doesn’t seem like Papdi No Lot if it doesn’t have a lingering kick at the end! We always blend up all of our peppers with the seeds in, but you can always remove the seeds before blending for less heat.
Perfecting This “Dough”
This dough is essentially spicy, steamed, rice flour dough. There are a few different methods to making it. One of the most common methods is adding your dry ingredients to your wet ingredients. This is a little harder than the second method because it’s easy to clump up. The second method (which I prefer) is to add your wet ingredients to your dry ingredients. This way you can control the water and flour as they combine, and you can get the perfectly consistent dough.
Mom’s Recipes
My mom makes amazing food, and I probably would not have been into cooking if it wasn’t for her! Some of her other popular dishes are Vada Pav, Palak Paneer, and Patuda No Lot! All of these are my favorite comfort foods for when I need a little pick me up, and I always thought they were hard to make. I’ve simplified a lot of these recipes for you, so check them out if you are looking for some yummy Indian foods!
