Thai Basil Fried Rice

Thai Basil Fried Rice is now a weekly recipe and always on rotation! I’m a little strange and I don’t like regular white rice, but I can eat ANY type of fried rice, ANY day! This is one of my favorites to make because I love every single veggie that goes in here, and it tastes incredible with my Vegetarian Red Curry recipe! The first time I made this for my dad, he loved it so much that he asked me to make it again the next day!! TRUST ME, you’ll love it too 😉

SO MANY INGREDIENTS!

Every time I post an Asian or Asian inspired recipe, people always comment on how it uses so many sauces and seasonings. One thing that I love about this cuisine is that a lot of these sauces are interchangeable. They go in so many dishes, and they will last in the fridge for a long time. I love to go to H-Mart because they have amazing quality ingredients for the best price. Also- if you are looking for thai basil, you will definitely find it at H-Mart or your local Asian grocery store!

My Favorite Veggies

For Thai Basil Fried Rice, I love to add a variety of veggies. Of course this version doesn’t include any meat, but you can always add any protein of your choice… even tofu! My favorite vegetables to add are bell peppers and green beans (aside from the garlic, onion, and all of the sauces). The reason why I like to keep it simple is because I love to eat Thai Basil Fried Rice with any type of curry, which always has some additional vegetables in it! If you want to add more, you can always do mushrooms, broccoli, carrots, etc!

Other Types of Fried Rice

Clearly you are here because you love fried rice, so I’d love to introduce you to some of my other popular recipes! If you are looking for something a little unique, try out my Herbed Italian Rice! It has all of your favorite veggies that go into Italian cuisine, and just a drop of red sauce to get things going! Alternatively, my Maggi Masala Fried Rice is also very delicious, with a variety of Indian spices. This meal is like comfort in a bowl to me!

Thai Basil Fried Rice
A simple, one pot rice, that you will make on repeat every week!

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 6 cloves garlic (sliced thin)
  • 1.5 tbsp ginger (grated or ginger paste)
  • 4 thai chili peppers (finely chopped)
  • 3/4 cup green beans (cit into 1 inch pieces)
  • 1 medium white onion (chopped)
  • 1.5 cup bell pepper (chopped, any color or assorted)
  • 4 cups cooked jasmine rice
  • 1.5 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp vegetarian oyster sauce
  • 1.5 tbsp sambal oelek
  • 1/2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 scallions (finely chopped)
  • 3/4 cup thai basil leaves (roughly chopped)

INTRUCTIONS

  1. Add oil to your pan on medium heat. Once hot, add in the garlic, ginger, thai chili peppers, and green beans.
  2. After a minute or so, add in your onion and bell pepper. Let this cook for about 2 minutes, or until all veggies are fork tender.
  3. While veggies are cooking, mix together the soy sauce, vegetarian oyster sauce, sambal oelek, and brown sugar in a bowl.
  4. Add your rice to the pan with veggies, and then pour the sauce over the rice. Mix until everything is nice and coated.
  5. Do a taste test and add salt + black pepper per taste. Add all of your thai basil and scallions into the pan and mix well. Serve immediately!
